Anthony and I (Mike) wrote this one together last November. It kind of came together during a period of time where we knew Anthony was leaving the band and the rest of weren't really sure what came next. The lyrics are about how music often succeeds where words failing in communicating what we want to express.
lyrics
Its only when you got a lot to say
That words will only just get in my way
So I show it in these simple notes I play
Cuz words will only just get in my way
Oh its oftentimes when I try to speak
That everything gets a bit too bleak
So play a tune and put it on repeat
Cuz words alone are just a bit too bleak
So everytime, I try, to give my everything
It seems that I get lost in a trap of social misery
So I open my mouth and sing
When we were young you know it made more sense
To write our songs in the future tense
With these strings I find I lose the stress
Nowadays in the present tense
In conversations I would always fright
From saying things that were on my mind
My mind would swirl into a mental fight
Cuz words would never show what's on my mind
So everytime, I try, to give my everything
It seems that I get lost in a trap of social misery
So I open my mouth and sing
